Silent & Stand-up

Two forms of comedy that are often forgotten about or less commonly talked about are silent films and stand-up.

SILENT FILMS:

Some Silent Films Stars:
Charlie Chaplin
Thelma Todd
Harold Lloyd
Laurel and Hardy
Mabel Normand
Buster Keaton

Silent films were made around and awhile after the turn of the century, especially popular during the 20's and 30's. Even after films had sound, many people still liked to make theirs silent, although accompanied with music.

My personal favorite is Charlie Chaplin. He's got to be one of the funniest silent comedians of all time. See some of his movies, which include: City Lights, The Kid, Modern Times, Gold Rush, Pay Day, The Great Dictator ( that one's not silent).

Let's not forget Vaudeville! This was done even before silent films, before they could make films, and after that also, as they were popular. They were live performances consisting of comedy acts, dancing, singing, a whole entertaining show, but much lower budget! Very good.

Check out <www.silent-stars.com> for more on that.

STAND-UP:

Some stand-up comedians are:
Jim David
Richard Jeni
Dennis Leary
Laura Kightlinger
Sabrina Williams
Elvira Kurt

I'm sure most people have seen this. It's where a person is on front of an audience telling hilarious anecdotes with loads of one liners. Very entertaining. This month comedy central has been showing "Comic Remix" with tons of stand-up comedians showing their stuff. We recommend it.
